Parliamentary Committee on Independent Institutions has confirmed its decision to dismiss all five sitting members of Civil Service Commission (CSC).
The committee previously decided to dismiss CSC President Ali Shameem, Vice President Shaheed Mohamed and members Zakariyya Hussain and Ibrahim Shaheeq. However, the committee later decided to dismiss the most recent appointment to the commission Fathimath Amira as well, as she has been found to have provided the committee with false information. Parliamentarian Mohamed Abdulla Shafeeq proposed the motion to dismiss Amira, along with the other four members of the commission.
The parliament has probed into the actions of CSC members on multiple occasions over delays in commission proceedings and requested written responses from 4 members before February 18. The investigations mainly include unfair dismissal of employees, influence peddling in recruiting permanent secretaries, unjust policies in staff recruitment to the commission and personal issues amongst members of the commission.
As part of the investigation, the committee also met with cabinet ministers to clarify if the actions of the members hindered government proceedings. The ministers noted the actions of the commission had obstructed many operations within ministries.
