Youth Ministry offers online courses for unemployed youth

Ministry of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment has announced the opportunity for unemployed Maldivian youth to take up foreign online courses.

The youth ministry said the courses were offered to the Maldives by Commonwealth of Learning (COL) as part of its efforts to provide an immediate solution to the challenges of unemployment and job losses faced by people due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The ministry stated COL has offered the Maldives 50 licenses to nominate unemployed Maldivian youth to choose from over 400 courses across different sectors, taught by 200 of the world’s leading universities and industry educators.

As per the announcement, the ministry will offer the opportunity to first 50 applications sent with complete documents. The chances will be offered to 25 male and 25 female applicants. Interested Maldivian youth who are between the age of 18 and 35 years have been instructed to submit their applications by June 14 for the courses that run from September 30 until December 31 this year.

Ministry of Economic Development has reported around 1,300 people who have faced job losses due to COVID-19 have registered with the Job Centre of the ministry.
