Maldives confirms seventh COVID-19 death

Health Protection Agency (HPA) has revealed an elderly COVID-19 patient has passed away at an isolation facility, bringing the COVID-19 death toll in the Maldives to 7.

HPA stated an 89 year-old Maldivian woman passed away the Hulhule’ Island Isolation Facility during the early hours of June 2. The confirmation of her death came less than a day after a 54 year-old Bangladeshi man died while seeking treatment for COVID-19 at Tree Top Hospital. With the two deaths reported over the last two days, the COVID-19 death toll in the Maldives now stands at 7, including 4 Maldivians and 3 Bangladeshis.

The latest statistics from HPA revealed the number of COVID-19 cases in the Maldives has risen to 1,829, including 1,334 active cases, 488 recoveries and 7 deaths. There are 1,403 individuals in quarantine facilities and 1,258 in isolation facilities.
