HPA lifts travel restrictions between islands not under monitoring

Health Protection Agency (HPA) has lifted travel restrictions between islands which are not under monitoring.

Under the authorities vested in the Director General of Public Health during the State of Public Health Emergency, changes have been made to the restrictions imposed across the Maldives, except the Greater Male’ Region. In this regard, travelling is now permitted between islands which are not under monitoring by HPA. Social and economic activities can now be resumed in these islands.

However, HPA has advised the public not to travel between islands for non-essential purposes. HPA has instructed local councils to coordinate efforts to acquire food and other essential items to islands.

Furthermore, HPA has urged the public to practice physical distancing at all times and observe personal safety measures. HPA has instructed relevant authorities in islands to ensure safety precautions are in place, despite easing restrictions. The agency has stated restrictions can still be re-imposed based on how the situation of COVID-19 develops in the Maldives.
