Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed has stated an effective healthcare system is the most crucial element in overcoming the COVID-19 pandemic.
Speaking at a webinar titled, Commonwealth Tourism during the COVID-19 Lockdown: Immediate Responses and Future Opportunities, Speaker Nasheed said countries must seek alternative ways of fighting COVID-19 other than quarantine. He expressed belief an effective healthcare system is the most important element in fighting COVID-19, and called on countries to focus their efforts on fighting the disease by strengthening healthcare facilities.
The webinar was attended by several senior officials of Commonwealth member states and prominent companies in the tourism industry. During the webinar, discussions were held on the future of the tourism industry and ways of working together in overcoming the challenges faced by the industry.
Two panel discussions were held during the webinar. While the speaker took part in the panel discussion on the adverse effects of COVID-19 on the tourism industry, Minister of Tourism Ali Waheed took part in the panel discussion on the efforts of the tourism industry to fight the COVID-19 pandemic.
