MRC begins issuing beneficiary cards for migrant workers

Maldivian Red Crescent (MRC) has begun issuing beneficiary cards for migrant workers to be used as access to humanitarian support.

Speaking to PSM News, Communication and Resource Mobilisation Officer of MRC Mizy Musthafa said the beneficiary cards issued to migrant workers will facilitate easier access for the humanitarian aid provided by MRC amid the COVID-19 crisis. Noting the card is not an official document, she said the card simply helps to identify migrant workers in need of assistance and allows MRC to contact such individuals when the necessity arises.

The beneficiary card is issued to migrant workers by MRC, after collecting their information upon their consent. The card includes details such as the name, age, nationality and emergency contact of the migrant worker.

MRC stated the beneficiary cards will be issued to migrant workers in need, irrespective of their documentation status. MRC states the cards will help the organisation to maintain a database of migrant workers under assistance.

MRC has been working on providing food and essential items for migrant workers in need of assistance amid the lockdown imposed in the Greater Male’ Region. MRC has also established a Migrant Relief Fund to collect public donations for the efforts to assist migrant workers.
