Kulhudhuffushi lockdown extended for another 10 days

The COVID-19 taskforce established in Kulhudhuffushi City has decided to extend the lockdown period in the city for an additional 10 days.

The lockdown announced by the taskforce on April 21 was eased on May 1, to allow people to move out from 0600hrs until 1530hrs for essential purposes. With the extension, the new lockdown period will last until May 23.

Health Protection Agency (HPA) has granted Kulhudhuffushi City Council the powers to impose a fine of between USD 32 and USD 323 on individuals who leave their homes without permission.

The lockdown imposed in the Great Male' Region has also been extended until May 28 by the HPA. A lockdown was first imposed in the Great Male' Region on April 15 following a community spread in Male' City.

The Maldives has reported nearly 1,000 confirmed COVID-19 cases of which 46 patients have successfully recovered. The country has recorded 4 COVID-19 related deaths in the country including an expatriate worker.
