Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) has called on businesses to clear goods brought to Male' Commercial Harbour and Hulhumale' Harbour.
MPL stated priority had been given to clear food, medicine and other essential items in the last two weeks. However, the company said arrangements have now been made to clear all types of goods and called on businesses to clear their goods from the ports as soon as possible.
MPL brought changes to its service hours due to the COVID-19 situation in the Maldives. While the priority was given to clear essential items during the reduced service hours, MPL said demurrage fees will not be raised for other types of goods in the port as the movement has been restricted due to the lockdown.
Across the last two weeks, MPL has unloaded cargo from 7 container ships. MPL said most of the cargo are still in containers unloaded from the ships, adding the stack of containers are causing space difficulties inside the port. Urging businesses to clear their items from the ports, MPL said assistance will be provided in acquiring the required police permit to go to the port.
MPL requested businesses to contact the ICP desk established at the North Harbour to seek assistance in clearing the items.
