State Trading Organisation (STO) has stated 40,000 sacks of staples were loaded onto local vessels travelling to different islands in the past 7 days.
In a tweet, Managing Director of STO Hussain Amr said the demand for staple food has increased in the atolls in Ramadan, despite the difficulties caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Amr said STO is working hard to transport staples to the atolls, noting 40,000 sacks were loaded onto local vessels within the last 7 days.
Furthermore, the managing director said there are enough staples in the country despite the increased demand. Amr said retail businesses in the Greater Male’ Region can buy staples from the STO staples warehouse. He added STO is contacting the atolls to check the stocks of staples in the respective regions.
STO has assured it will ensure the supply of staples for regions in which stocks are running out. STO said the supply of staples to islands can be checked through storate.sto.mv/staples.
