945 contacts of COVID-19 patients traced, 242 samples tested

National Emergency Operation Centre (NEOC) has revealed it has identified 945 contacts of patients who have tested positive for COVID-19 in the Maldives.

Speaking at the daily press briefing, Spokesperson of NEOC Mohamed Mabrook Azeez said 242 samples have been collected from the identified contacts and tested. He added 164 locations have been put under monitoring across the country by the Health Protection Agency (HPA).

Furthermore, the spokesperson revealed 115 individuals are kept in isolation facilities and over 1,145 individuals kept in quarantine facilities. Mabrook noted 3 individuals in Vilivaru Quarantine Facility have been released following negative test results. He added Kandima Maldives and the Sun Siyam Iru Fushi are to be utilised as additional quarantine facilities, noting the number of isolation and quarantine facilities in the Maldives has risen to 14.

The spokesperson said 10 islands have been placed under monitoring including Maarandhoo, Hoarafushi, Thuraakunu, Thakandhoo, Ihavandhoo and Uligamu in Haa Alifu Atoll and Nolhivaram, Vaikaradhoo, Hirimaradhoo in Haa Dhaalu Atoll and Guraidhoo in Kaafu Atoll.
