Chief of Defence Force Major General Abdulla Shamaal has states Maldivian security forces will remain steadfast in maintaining national security amid the lockdown imposed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, despite threats against the security forces.
Speaking at a press conference, Major General Shamaal noted individuals promoting major crimes have been trying to attack the security forces by taking advantage of the situation of COVID-19. In this regard, Shamaal noted the burning of police vehicles and public vehicles in order to induce fear among the security forces as well as the public. However, he said such actions cannot waver the determination of security forces, adding the security personnel will remain steadfast in maintaining national security.
Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) and Maldives Police Service (MPS) have assured to work tirelessly in implementing the orders of the Health Protection Agency (HPA) and other relevant authorities amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
