Minister of Health Abdulla Ameen has requested all health professionals in the country to prepare to work in the frontlines during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Speaking at a press conference held at National Emergency Operation Centre (NEOC), Health Minister Ameen stated it is important to take the initiative and to come forward to serve the country as Maldives is currently in need of as many healthcare professionals as possible. He said it is important to care about others and to follow instructions given by the authorities.
The health minister stated before the detection of a COVID-19 case in Male' City, efforts were launched to contain and to delay the spread of the coronavirus. Noting the patient who tested positive for COVID-19 in Male' City had no travel history and had no contacts with another positive case, the minister said efforts are underway to determine and identify how the person contracted the coronavirus. He stated the danger of the situation has now significantly increased as a positive case has been identified from the capital city.
