National Emergency Operation Centre (NEOC) has revealed the administration has received 723 disputes regarding employers unlawfully dismissing employees or amending the employment agreement.
Spokesperson of NEOC Mohamed Mabrook Azeez said a total of 723 cases have been lodged at the Ministry of Economic Development thus far regarding dismissals, no pay leaves and pay cuts. While a total of 185 cases have been submitted to the ministry following dismissals against Employment Act, 113 cases have been submitted due to unpaid wages.
Additionally, 245 individuals have submitted complaints about no-pay leaves, and 72 individuals reported pay cuts. While 64 suspensions have also been lodged, 44 have reported cases of withheld allowances.
The administration is collecting information on violations against Employment Act after Minister of Finance announced an allowance for individuals who lose their jobs after April 1, due to economic repressions following COVID-19.
The economy ministry has called on people who lose jobs to register at the job centre portal. Arrangements for employees to lodge complaints were made on March 21.
