New 300-bed isolation facility being developed in Hulhumale'

National Emergency Operation Centre (NEOC) has revealed efforts are underway to develop an isolation facility with a capacity of 300 beds.

Speaking at the daily press briefing, Spokesperson of NEOC Mohamed Mabrook Azeez said an isolation facility is being developed near Tree Top Hospital in Hulhumale', after vacating some buildings and renovating them. Mabrook said the facility will have a capacity of 300 beds upon completion. He added the government plans to complete the development of the facility by April 15.

Furthermore, the spokesperson said efforts are also underway to establish a new isolation facility in Farukolhufushi. Mabrook said the project is overseen by Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF), in association with State Electric Company Limited (STELCO), Fenaka Corporation, Amin Construction Private Limited, Maldives National Association of Construction Industry (MNACI) and Ministry of National Planning and Infrastructure.

While the government is in efforts to develop new isolation facilities for COVID-19 patients, Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) is training doctors and nurses to provide intensive care for COVID-19 patients who go into critical condition.
