Development plans will continue despite economic impact: President

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has reassured there are no plans to postpone or halt developmental projects planned by the administration despite constraints to the economy due to COVID-19.

Briefing the local media on the developing situation of COVID-19 in Maldives, the president stated the development of the Greater Male' Connectivity Bridge and Thilafushi International Port will continue as planned. The president acknowledged the global impact on the global economy due to the pandemic is affecting Maldives as well, noting the impact on Maldives could be relatively higher as a country which is highly dependent on tourism sector. However, he said the administration has no plans to postpone the infrastructure development projects or disrupting the essential services required for citizens despite the disruptions.

President Solih stated while USD 10 million has been allocated from the state budget for the Public Sector Investment Programme (PSIP) projects, funds for most of the projects are arranged via line of credit (LOC).
