President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has ratified the Fifth Amendment to the Local Council Elections Act, which amends Article18 of the act. Parliament of Maldives passed the amendment bill March 10.
The amendment states that in addition to the votes deemed invalid under Section 56 of the General Act on Elections, votes cast for more candidates than the allocated number of candidates to be elected for that elective area in the Local council Election shall be deemed as an invalid vote.
Upon ratification, the Act has been published on the Government’s Gazette.
