Communications Ministry to arrange ways for IT employees to work from home

Ministry of Communications, Science and Technology has begun efforts to arrange a mechanism to allow state employees to undertake Information Technology (IT) related work from home.

Minister of Communications, Science and Technology Mohamed Maleeh Jamal met with IT staff of different state institutions today to discuss the establishment of a task force to enable joint operations in a situation where COVID-19 spreads further in Maldives. During the meeting, the minister said the situation brings an opportunity to bring all IT-related work of the government under the same network, in accordance with the policy of the ministry. He added the aim of the task force would be establishing the emergency Standard Operations Procedure (SOP).

Communications Minister Maleeh noted the ministry has been making arrangements to allow state employees to record attendance through identification cards rather than by fingerprint, in order to reduce physical contact. He also said the ministry is working to arrange employees to undertake IT-related work of the government from home, noting attending workplaces could increase the risk of COVID-19 if the situation worsens.

Maldives has reported six positive cases of COVID-19. The administration has been strengthening safety measures to contain the spread of the virus in Maldives.
