President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has pledged to remove the difficulties faced by women in the employment market.
Speaking at the campaign event organised by the Women’s Wing of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), President Solih noted women face several difficulties in the employment market due to social issues such as gender discrimination and favourism. The president pledged to address these challenges, adding the administration aims to conduct programmes to train more women for the employment market while also facilitating means for women to earn money from home.
The president highlighted the efforts of the administration in empowering women, noting 35% of the cabinet is comprised of women, while two of the five sitting judges at the Supreme Court of Maldives are women. He also noted the increased number of women in leading positions at independent institutions.
