Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has secured one seat from Male' City Council and 10 seats from women's development committees (WDC) without an election.
According to Elections Commission of Maldives (ECM), Mohamed Saif Fathih secured a seat from the Male' City Council as no other candidate filed documents to contest for the North Galolhu seat of the city council. ECM said MDP also secured 10 seats of WDCs since no other candidate filed documents for those seats. All the seats the main ruling party had secured from the WDCs were from the capital city.
Furthermore, ECM announced the candidates running for the position of mayor of Male' City are Anas Abdul Sattar from MDP, Dr. Mohamed Muizzu from Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and Alhan Fahmy as an independent candidate.
A total of 56 candidates are competing for the 18 seats of Male' City Council, according to ECM.
