The names of 5 nominees to the position of Public Representative at Judicial Service Commission (JSC) have been sent to the Parliamentary Committee on Judiciary for review.
Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed announced the names of the five members to the parliament floor during today’s parliament sitting. The five members nominated to JSC are Aminath Ummu Kulsoom, Ali Mohamed Manik, Adam Migdhaad, Ahmed Mizmaad and Ahmed Naseer.
This would be the second time the parliament is nominating members to represent the public at JSC. During the first round of nominations, the names of Ahmed Saavy and Hussain Amru were forwarded by the judiciary committee but were rejected by the parliament floor.
JSC is constituted of the parliament speaker, a judge appointed by the Supreme Court, a judge appointed by the High Court, a judge appointed by lower courts, a representative member of the parliament, a public representative selected by the parliament, an appointee of the president and the Attorney General.
While there are 9 members currently sitting in JSC, the only vacant position is the public representative’s position.
