Jumhooree Party (JP) says it prioritises winning the next presidential election rather than the upcoming local council elections.
Speaking to media on the preparations for the local council elections, Riyaz Rasheed, who is the political advisor of Leader of JP Gasim Ibrahim, said the party will do all it can to win seats for JP candidates contesting in the upcoming elections.
Meanwhile, Deputy Leader of JP Ilham Ahmed said the party will officially begin its campaign for the elections on March 13. He further announced a campaign rally will be held in the carnival grounds in Male' City to officially kick start the campaign and introduce candidates backed by the party.
JP criticised the administration over measures that need correction and stated the party will not stay silent if the administration takes bad decisions although JP is a coalition partner.
JP has given tickets to 183 candidates to contest in the upcoming local council elections, while 77 candidates have been given tickets in the women's development committee elections. The local council elections and women's development committee elections are scheduled to be held on April 4.
