President establishes child and family protection services

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has constituted Child and Family Protection Services.

The new agency was established as per Article 60(a) of the Child Rights Protection Act. The law, which came into effect on February 20, dictates the establishment of the agency under the Ministry of Gender, Family and Social Services.

The new agency is mandated with the responsibilities of protecting all children from discrimination, bias, harm, cruel punishment, neglect and physical and emotional abuse. With the establishment, the responsibilities of protecting the rights of children previously assumed by Ministry of Gender, Family and Social Services would now be undertaken by the agency.
