Ministry of Health has introduced the concepts of new health facilities that will incorporated into hospitals in three atolls.
In a special function held at Maagiri Hotel today, Minister of Health Abdulla Ameen introduced the concepts of the new health facilities to be established in Haa Alifu Atoll Hospital, Baa Atoll Hospital and Dhaalu Atoll Hospital. Speaking at the function, Health Minister Ameen said the hospitals will be transformed with the addition of new health facilities, noting the hospitals will have 19 OPD consultation rooms, 6 private rooms, 2 operation theatres, 8 wards with 12 beds each as well as a new laboratory, x-ray room and an ultra-sound scanning room. He also stated an intensive care unit with 3 beds and a neonatal intensive care unit with 3 beds will be established in the hospitals.
Speaking further, the minister said the policy of the administration is to make modern healthcare facilities accessible for all citizens of the country, adding population cannot be considered as the primary factor when developing healthcare facilities in the country. He said the ministry intends to introduce more concepts that have been developed for hospitals in various other regions next week.
The health ministry states the main challenges and obstructions in delivering quality healthcare are being identified and addressed, noting the ministry is trying to provide permanent solutions to these problems. The ministry noted the main challenge faced by most hospitals and health centres in the atolls is the lack of space.
Hospitals in Haa Alifu, Baa and Dhaalu Atoll will be reconstructed under a contractor-financing model. An announcement has been issued to seek a contractor for the projects.
