Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid has arrived in Geneva to take part in the High-level Segment of the 43rd Session of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC).

During the three-day high-level segment, over 80 member states of UNHRC and various international organisations would deliberate on human rights issues of global concern. As such, Minister Shahid would be delivering a statement on behalf of Maldives on February 25, highlighting the human rights achievements of the government and touching upon various international human rights issues.

Minister Shahid is scheduled to meet with United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet on the sidelines of the high-level segment, and would also engage in bilateral discussions with his counterparts from different countries and multilateral organisations. These discussions are expected to enhance the pre-existing cooperation of Maldives with its international partners in the field of human rights and explore avenues for further cooperation.

Furthermore, Minister Shahid would be actively participating in three side events hosted by the Commonwealth of Nations, Alliance for Multilateralism and the Contact Group on Council Membership respectively, during the high-level segment.
