Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has stated it will always attempt to minimise the loss to the state, even in transactions that do not involve corruption.
Briefing on the investigation report regarding Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed's visit to Addu City, Commissioner Ali Ashraf said although the trip involves no corruption, expenses of any trip made outside official trips will have to be borne personally. He further said ACC is mandated with acquiring the amount spent on personal causes, regardless of the amount.
The commissioner said the speaker had a ticket purchased to return to Male' from Kooddoo and it was changed later to allow him to visit to Addu and return to Male' from Addu. He said ACC has ordered Speaker Nasheed to reimburse the additional USD 28.75 the state had to bear. He claimed ACC acted in what best benefits the state.
ACC asked the Parliament of Maldives to seek the USD 28.75 which was spent from the parliament budget by Speaker Nasheed for programmes not included in the Southern Seminar held by Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) in August 2019. It is understood the additional USD 28.75 was spent for the ticket of his bodyguard, after the ticket fare had gone up.
