Awareness on Child Rights Protection Act is important: Gender Minister

Minister of Gender, Family and Social Services Aishath Mohamed Didi has highlighted the importance of public awareness on the newly implemented Child Rights Protection Act.

In a tweet after the act came into effect, the gender minister called the public to get acquainted with the law enacted for the benefit of every child. She said awareness allows the society to better understand and follow the law and result in better societal changes and development.

Minister Aishath highlighted, according to the newly implemented act, publicising information and photos of victims is illegal.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih ratified the act on child rights protection on November 20, 2019. The act came into effect three months after ratification.

As per the act drafted in accordance with the international child rights conventions and the Constitution of Maldives, the administration must establish Child and Family Protection Services 30 days from the date the law becomes effective. In addition, a Child Rights Protection Council must be formed within 60 days.
