Beds registered increase by 14% in January

Ministry of Tourism has revealed registered tourist beds in Maldives have increased by 14% in January 2020.

The statistics of tourism ministry shows by the end of January, 51,958 beds were registered across the country which is an increase compared to the beds registered at the same period last year. By January 2019, 45,565 beds were registered at the tourism ministry.

Meanwhile, bed nights spent by tourists increased 9.9% in January while a tourist on average spent 6.3 days in Maldives. Furthermore, the bed usage increased 70.1% during the period.

The tourist arrivals also increased by 14.3% in January. The statistics showed 177,140 tourists arrived in Maldives in January, including 173,347 arrivals from air and 3,793 arrivals from sea. In January 2019, tourist arrivals to Maldives amounted to 154,969, including 151,552 from air and 3,417 arrivals from sea.

According to statistics, most number of tourist arrivals were from Europe, which amounts to 94,725. It is an increase of 13.4% compared to the same month of last year.
