Ministry of Foreign Affairs has revealed Maldivians are once again eligible for on arrival visa from 41 Commonwealth member countries following the readmission of Maldives to the global organisation.
The foreign ministry expects the on-arrival visas to ease various travel issues faced by Maldivians in travelling to Commonwealth nations.
Maldives is set to participate in the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) to be held in Kigali, Rwanda in June. According to the foreign ministry, Maldives will also contribute to the Commonwealth subsidiary organisation meetings.
The readmission of Maldives into the Commonwealth was officially confirmed on February 1. Maldives had withdrawn from the Commonwealth during the administration of former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Qayoom on October 13, 2016. After President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih assumed power in November 2018, Maldives reapplied to join the Commonwealth on December 6, 2018, to fulfill his electoral pledge.
