The Presidential Commission on Corruption and Asset Recovery, established by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih in 2018 to recuperate the lost assets of the state, has revealed it has completed the investigations and is currently working on compiling the final report. The commission expects to complete and submit the final report to President Solih within 10 days.
The biggest case investigated by the commission involves investigating the corruption scandal of Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC), which is the biggest case of corruption in Maldives. The commission said the report will include financial transactions and amounts embezzled in leasing 58 islands to develop resorts.
Additionally, the report will also include evidence to prosecute certain individuals, in addition to a recommendation to the president on leasing islands in an approach that mitigates corruption.
Regardless of the report compiled by the asset recovery commission, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) will continue investigating the MMPRC scandal.
