President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has decided to appoint Aishath Mohamed Didi, presently the Ambassador of Maldives to India, as the Minister of Gender, Family and Social Services.
In a tweet posted accepting the letter of resignation from Shidhatha Shareef, President thanked her for her services as the gender minister and wished her good fortune in future endeavors and announced the decision to appoint Aishath Mohamed Didi as the new gender minister.
Shidhatha resigned amid the decision of the parliamentary group of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) to launch a no-confidence motion against her in the parliament. The MDP parliamentary group made the decision following failure to handle several child abuse cases reported across the country and allegations the gender ministry took no action although being aware of the sexual offenses against the former Honorary Disability Ambassador Ahmed Hishan, allowing him to receive multiple national awards.
The new appointment, Aishath Mohamed Didi, attained higher education in the field of education. Aishath previously served as the gender minister from 2005 to 2008 during the tenure of former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom. She also served as Executive Director (Academic) of Villa College.
