President extends Independence Day greetings to Sri Lanka

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has extended greetings to the government and people of Sri Lanka on the occasion of the 72nd Independence Day of Sri Lanka.

In a tweet posted today, President Solih sent his greetings and well-wishes to President of Sri Lanka Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa and the people of Sri Lanka on the occasion of the country’s Independence Day.

Furthermore, Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid sent a message to Minister of Foreign Relations of Sri Lanka Dinesh Gunawardena on the occasion of Independence Day. In his message, Foreign Minister Shahid noted the people and governments of Maldives and Sri Lanka enjoy close and historical ties of friendship and cooperation based on mutual understanding and goodwill. He added the two countries share similar hopes and aspirations, as close neighbours, partners in development and founding members of SAARC.

The foreign minister concluded his message by wishing continued peace, progress and prosperity to the friendly people of Sri Lanka, adding Maldives looks forward to further consolidate the close cooperation and solidarity that exist between the two countries.
