President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has stated his administration intends to submit 56 bills to the parliament in the first term of this year. The president made the remarks while delivering the presidential address at the Parliament of Maldives.
Delivering the address, President Solih said 32 proposed amendments to the existing laws and 24 bills set to create entirely new laws will be submitted to the parliament.
Highlighting the success of his administration, the president said Maldivians have started witnessing peace and stability in the society. He further remarked and applauded the important role played by the parliament in supporting and aligning his administration towards democratic governance. He added the true underlying reasons the country's present peaceful condition was attributed to the sincerity and seriousness of the parliament in bringing the necessary positive changes.
President Solih indicated Maldivians have witnessed a commendable example of the three branches of the state functioning independently, extending support and holding each other accountable in the past eight months. He further said Maldivians will gain even more benefits should the branches of the state exercise power within their constitutional prerogatives.
The administration submitted 49 bills to the parliament last year, of which 27 bills have been passed.
