Minister of Health Abdulla Ameen has revealed the 20-year-old Maldivian man who was quarantined on suspicion of contracting novel coronavirus, is in good health.
Speaking at a press conference, Minister Ameen said the symptoms observed from him are no longer evident and he is in a good condition.
A 20-year-old man who arrived from Xiamen, China was quarantined last week to ensure he was not affected with the coronavirus. He was quarantined as he had common flu after a week from his arrival. The Maldivian quarantine facilities follow the standards set by World Health Organisation (WHO).
Health Minister Ameen said two more individuals have been quarantined to ensure safety and samples have now been sent to Pune, India to test for the virus. The minister further said an additional facility has also been set up in Farukolhufushi and arrangements for quarantine made. He said efforts are ongoing to increase the capacity of isolation units.
The health minister assured the administration aims to prevent individuals carrying coronavirus from arriving in Maldives, noting stricter screening processes have been established at all ports. He stated the ministry has made arrangements to send samples from Maldives to India and Thailand for testing.
According to the minister, 712 people were questioned over the last 24 hours and relevant and necessary information have been shared with them regarding the virus. He also revealed plans to conduct awareness sessions in all inhabited islands in the country, which is expected to be completed in the next three days.
