Maldives restricts entry of individuals travelling from or transiting via China

The Government of Maldives has decided to restrict entry of any individual traveling from or transiting via China, as part of additional border control measures taken to safeguard the country from novel coronavirus.

At a press conference held today, the announcement was made by the Minister of Tourism Ali Waheed. The minister said the decision was made after careful consideration of the current status of the rapid escalation and spread of novel coronavirus in China and internationally.

Under the new measures being implemented, the government will restrict entry of any person who has left or transited through mainland China effective from February 3, 2020. However, exceptions will be made in the case of Maldivian citizens.

The government stressed these additional border control measured are being taken as a matter of precaution to public health and safety, adding the measures are temporary.
