Minister of Health Abdulla Ameen has stated no further suspected cases of coronavirus have been identified in Maldives since Thursday.
Speaking at a press conference held to disseminate the latest information regarding the worldwide outbreak of coronavirus, Minister Ameen said no suspected cases have been found since a 20-year old man was placed under quarantine on Thursday. However, he said the ministry has been receiving a lot of phone calls from individuals to clarify if they fit to the guidelines of World Health Organisation (WHO) in placing individuals under quarantine. The minister said the calls are mostly from people displaying flu-like symptoms, while some calls have been received from individuals who travelled to China recently. In this regard, he said the ministry is currently monitoring the condition of two such individuals, although they do not fit the same criteria as the individual currently under quarantine.
Furthermore, Minister Ameen said the health ministry has been providing valid and necessary information to all relevant authorities, noting the guidelines of WHO are being followed in disseminating information. The minister said information of a patient tested positive for the virus will also be shared in accordance with the set guidelines. He added the test results of the 20-year-old Maldivian man placed under quarantine will be released in the next 2 to 3 days.
