President instructs authorities to work together against novel coronavirus

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has instructed authorities to work together to put in place preventive measures against the novel coronavirus.

During a meeting with some cabinet ministers and relevant government authorities, President Solih inquired about the latest precautionary measures put in place against the novel coronavirus. At the meeting, the president highlighted the utmost priority should be to safeguard and ensure the health of citizens as well as tourists who are visiting the country and urged authorities to take all necessary measures against the virus.

Furthermore, President Solih inquired about the measures taken to ensure the health and safety of Maldivians living in China, and other countries with reported cases of coronavirus. He urged the authorities to continuously monitor the situation.

Recently, government authorities briefed the media about the precautionary measures taken, including the establishment of a 12-bed isolation facility in Hulhumale’ Hospital and a four-bed isolated Intensive Care Unit in Dharumavantha Hospital. The steps taken also include the designation of three ambulances and a call centre to provide information about the virus and the clinical guidelines and formulating Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to address any possible cases that may arise.

No suspected cases have been found in Maldives since a 20-year old man was placed under quarantine. The test results of the 20-year-old Maldivian man placed under quarantine will be released in the next 2 to 3 days.
