Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has called on the construction industry to ensure Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) reports are completed before the design and development stage of projects.
Speaking to PSM News, Director General of EPA Ibrahim Naeem said most parties in the construction industry tend begin EIA application after designing the projects, which leads to several complications when changes need to be brought to the design. Naeem said it is important that EIA reports precede the design and development stage of projects in order to eliminate delays and other complications in projects.
The director general added submitting EIA reports after designing the projects causes difficulties to EPA as well, adding there are difficulties in fitting EPA’s proposals to the project budget. He called on the construction industry to ensure that projects pass the EIA stage before beginning design and development.
