Japan has introduced a grassroot grant project scheme to conduct developmental projects in Maldives.
Information on the scheme titled Grant Assistance for Grass Roots and Human Security Projects was shared with institutions, schools, and non-governmental organisations at a function held in Hotel Jen.
Speaking at the function, Charge De Affairs Koji Kaneko stated the project titled ''Kusano Van'' has an allocated USD 907,911 to conduct developmental projects in Maldives. Kaneko said the project will fund non-governmental organisations, schools, hospitals and local councils to run infrastructure and service improvement projects to improve the provision of basic needs of the people. The grant will not fund business projects.
Kaneko said the 30-year-old fund was introduced in 1989 and has conducted projects in 32 countries.
