Prosecutor General's Office (PG Office) has decides to appeal the ruling of High Court that states there is no legal basis of testimonies from secret witnesses.

The decision by the PG Office to appeal the ruling at the Supreme Court follows a verdict from High Court that states it found no legal basis of testimonies from secret witnesses in the case against former Chief Justice Abdulla Saeed over obstruction of justice.

The High Court ruling stated taking secret testimonies are not specified in the Criminal Procedures Act, although the law allows the court to take secret witness testimonies. Hence, according to the High Court, there was no legal course of action to be taken in the testimonies of secret witnesses as the testimonies were not taken in accordance to the manner prescribed in the law.

Although the High Court decided not to consider the testimonies of secret witnesses in the case against the former chief justice, testimonies of secret witnesses have previously been taken in various other cases.
