Maldives Correctional Service (MCS) has formed a special committee to oversee the implementation of changes requested in the prison audit report.
MCS said the committee was formed by Commissioner of Prisons Ahmed Mohamed Fulhu in order to fast track the implementation of changes requested in the prison audit report, which was prepared last year. The 290-page report included over 180 amendments that need to be brought to prisons.
Ministry of Home Affairs had also formed a committee last year to oversee the implementation of changes noted in the prison audit report. The ministry had also urged relevant authorities and individuals to refrain from obstructing any efforts to bring about the changes required to prisons.
Following public concern over the continuous discord in prisons, the administration dismissed former Commissioner of Prisons Abdulla Munaz earlier this month.
