No suspected cases of coronavirus in Maldives: HPA

Health Protection Agency (HPA) has assured no suspected cases of coronavirus have been found in Maldives.

Meanwhile, Ministry of Health has also taken several precautionary measures against the spread of the virus, including installation of thermal cameras in Velana International Airport (VIA) and Gan International Airport to screen the passengers. HPA revealed a total of 6 thermal cameras will be installed inclusive of all ports. Furthermore, HPA said a temporary isolation centre is established in Hulhumale' adding efforts are underway to establish an isolation centre in VIA.

While coronavirus was initially found in Wuhan City of China, the virus has been rapidly spreading to other countries. China is ramping up containment measures as the spread of a new coronavirus has killed 56 people and infected at least 1,975 more in the country.

More than 56 million people in more than a dozen cities are affected by travel restrictions, which have been introduced amid fears the transmission rate will balloon as hundreds of millions of Chinese travel for Lunar New Year celebrations.
