Ambassadors of Greece and Norway present credentials to President

The new ambassadors of Greece and Norway to Maldives have presented their letters of credence to President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih. The letters were presented in two separate meetings held at the President’s Office today.

During the meeting with Ambassador-Designate of Greece Dionyssios Kyvetos, the president congratulated the ambassador on the commencement of his term as the Ambassador-Designate of Greece to Maldives and expressed hope that these positive relations will continue to prosper into the future.

Ambassador Kyvetos stated that it was a privilege to be appointed as the Ambassador-Designate to Maldives, and expressed hopes to further strengthen and diversify existing bilateral relations between Maldives and Greece. The president and the ambassador discussed common issues of concern including climate change and its impact on the preservation of cultural and natural heritage. The ambassador also noted he had been briefed on the government’s strategic action plan and was impressed by the initiatives being taken.

President Solih underscored that tourism is the largest industry in Maldives and emphasised the interest of the Maldivian Government to explore opportunities to increase tourist arrivals from Greece. He also requested the Greek government’s support in reducing tariffs levied on Maldivian fish exports by European Union nations. Ambassador Kyvetos also expressed his wish to further enhance relations between the two countries and assured his full support and assistance during his tenure.

During the meeting held with the new Ambassador-Designate of Norway Trine Joranli Eskedal, the president congratulated the ambassador on the commencement of her term as the Ambassador of Norway to Maldives and highlighted the close cooperation and strong bilateral ties between the two countries.

The Norwegian ambassador expressed her gratitude to the president for the warm welcome and highlighted the collaboration between the two countries in multiple areas including economic development, sustainable oceans and the renewable energy sector.
