Tender process completed for most infrastructure projects planned for 2020

Minister of National Planning and Infrastructure Mohamed Aslam has revealed tender process is complete for most of the projects included in the state budget by the ministry for 2020.

The minister made the statement at the symposium held by the planning ministry, in association with Maldives National Association of Construction Industry (MNACI), to provide information to contractors on the infrastructure projects planned for the next two years.

Speaking at the symposium, Minister Aslam said the tender process of most projects planned for the year has been completed. He added most projects are being contracted on a design-and-build basis, in order to increase opportunities for contractors and to increase the involvement of contractors in developing the construction industry of Maldives.

Meanwhile, Minister of State for National Planning and Infrastructure Akram Kamaluddeen stated efforts are underway to review and resolve the challenges faced by local contractors in order to ensure projects are conducted without any interruptions. He also urged contractors to avoid taking on projects beyond their capability, noting it leads to significant delays in completion of projects.

The symposium was aimed at providing information to contractors on the infrastructure projects planned by the administration, including details on the bidding process for the projects. In this regard, details of bid security and insurance were shared with the contractors.

The planning ministry and MNACI said the symposium would help contractors to prepare in advance for infrastructure projects.
