Department of Judicial Administration (DJA) has requested courts to complete all cases involving sexual abuse of children within the next 6 months.
DJA made the request in a circular sent to all courts, following the decision of Judicial Service Commission (JSC) to establish a block trial system in order to fast track cases involving rape and abuse of children. All courts administered by DJA are required to process and complete all such cases within the next 6 months.
DJA stated the block trial system is being established with the consent of chief judges and other senior figures in the judiciary. According to DJA, the system will require cases to be processed within the minimum period required to carry out all procedures of the trial.
