Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has decided to advice against appointing High Court Judge Abdul Rauf Ibrahim to Supreme Court of Maldives.
JSC reviewed the name of Rauf after President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih nominated his name for the vacant position at the Supreme Court. However, JSC has decided to advice the president against appointing Rauf, noting three complaints have been submitted to the commission against him in December. Citing the information gathered on Rauf following the complaints, JSC stated the commission does not believe Rauf would be the right choice for the Supreme Court.
Last week, JSC had also decided to counsel the president against appointing former Chief Justice Ahmed Faiz Hussain to the apex court. The commission cited unconstitutional decisions made by Faiz during his time as Chief Justice as the reason behind the decision.
