Ambassador of Maldives in India Aishath Mohamed Didi has revealed discussions are underway with the Government of India to solve the issues of Maldivians being unable to enter the country.
A total of 40 Maldivians have been denied entry or deported from India in recent years. Speaking to PSM News in New Delhi, Ambassador Aishath highlighted the previously strained relations with India have enhanced following the official visit of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih to India. She noted there were many difficulties faced by Maldivians residing in India when she took the ambassadorial role, adding such issues have been resolved in the past one year.
The ambassador specifically added the visa issues faced by Maldivians have been gradually solved under ambassadorship. She noted hundreds of Maldivians continue to attain higher education in India from the fields of education, health and information technology.
Furthermore, Ambassador Aishath expressed 19 memoranda of understanding were signed in 2019 as part of the efforts to further strengthen the ties between the two countries.
Over the past year, India has increased providing finances to conduct socio-economic development projects in Maldives.
