Economic Ministry signs agreement with Polytechnic to train locals for the employment market

Ministry of Economic Development has signed an agreement with Maldives Polytechnic to train locals for the employment market of Maldives.

The agreement was signed by Minister of State for Economic Development Neeza Imad and CEO of Maldives Polytechnic Ahmed Naseer. The signing ceremony was also attended by Minister of Economic Development Fayyaz Ismail and Minister of Higher Education Dr. Ibrahim Hassan.

Under the agreement, Polytechnic will commence 10 courses in Certificate Level 3 and Advanced Level, to be conducted across different regions of the country. Deputy Minister of Economic Development Ahmed Mujahid stated courses will begin in four islands during January and February, including an electrician course in Muli, guesthouse management course in Ukulhas, civil engineering course in Hinnavaru as well as a refrigeration and air-conditioning course in Fuvahmulah City. Mujahid added courses will also be conducted in May, June, September and October across 13 atolls.

Meanwhile, the CEO of Polytechnic Ahmed Naseer noted the state is spending significantly on these courses, adding the youth must make use of this opportunity to obtain free training.

The administration targets to increase employment opportunities for the youth and build skilled individuals across various sectors. In this regard, the economic ministry has set up a job centre website to facilitate employment opportunities for the youth.
