An audit report has shown negligence of Ministry of Gender, Family and Social Services and Maldives Police Service in investigating cases related to children.
A performance audit compiled to determine the procedures of relevant authorities regarding such cases noted gender ministry failed to compile a plan or procedure to follow in high-risk cases. The audit also showed gender ministry has not compiled case reports or assessments of such cases. Furthermore, the audit revealed gender ministry does not monitor cases submitted by Maldives Police Service and Family Protection Authority (FPA).
One main findings from the audit was cases submitted are not investigated within the timelines or before the deadlines. In this regard, the audit mentioned that the police also fail to conclude such cases within the duration given.
Moreover, the audit said despite the regulation stating no case worker should be appointed with more than 20 cases, many workers have more than the determined case amount in pending. In addition, the report highlighted failure to maintain a medical history of children in state care. The report also said authorities have failed to seek medical assistance even when required to determine the sexual and physical damages.
The report compiled advised all authorities to follow procedures and to investigate such cases keeping in mind the sensitivity and seriousness.
