Minimum wage bill will be finalised this year: Speaker

Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed has announced work on the minimum wage bill will be completed in the upcoming term of the parliament, which begins in February.

Speaking to PSM News, Nasheed said the minimum wage bill has been drafted and discussions on the bill have been carried out with relevant authorities. He added the bill is expected to be passed in the upcoming term of the parliament, which begins on February 3.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih had formed an advisory board on minimum wage, which issued a report on the matter. After discussing the report in the cabinet, the president has decided to submit the report to the parliament.

Meanwhile, the speaker also shared details of some other bills that have been scheduled for the upcoming term of the parliament. He said 20 bills have been carried forward from the previous term, including bills on regulating service charges and allowances to resort employees and assisting individuals looking for employment.

When the parliament reconvenes on February 3, the president will deliver his presidential address for the year which focuses on the main issues facing the country and plans to resolve these issues.
