NBS to resume survey on household income and expenditure

National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has announced the survey on household income and expenditure in Maldives is set to resume this month.

The survey, which is conducted every five years, commenced last year. After suspending the survey in November 2019, NBS has announced the survey will resume this month.

NBS said efforts are underway to finalise the list of selected households for the survey. The bureau added surveyors will begin visiting the selected households in Male' City tomorrow, while the survey will resume in the atolls on January 25.

According to NBS, the survey is set to be conducted until April. During the period, trained surveyors from NBS will visit households across the country daily, except on Fridays.

The household income and expenditure survey will be conducted in a total of 1,080 households in Male' City and 4,760 households across the atolls. The survey is sanctioned under the National Regulations of Statistics, published in 2012.

According to the regulations, all citizens are obliged to provide information for a survey that is conducted by the administration. NBS assures the confidentiality of information collected during the survey will be maintained. The bureau has also urged the public to cooperate with the survey teams, as the survey is an important national project.
